🏕️ BIG NEWS from your old stomping grounds, Rockmont Alumni!

The Ship — our beloved main building that has housed our infirmary, female staff, and so many of Rockmont’s programs over the years — has just received a major national honor.

Known to the wider world as the Black Mountain College Studies Building, The Ship has been designated one of just TEN sites nationwide by the World Monuments Fund as part of their “Irreplaceable America” initiative — celebrating sites central to America’s story in honor of the country’s 250th anniversary.

Constructed between 1940 and 1942 by students, faculty, and staff using local materials, this building was the academic and social heart of Black Mountain College — an institution that shaped American art, education, and culture like few others. Alumni of BMC include Robert Rauschenberg, Buckminster Fuller, John Cage, Merce Cunningham, and many more.

And now — it sits right here at camp.

This recognition is a reminder of the extraordinary place we get to call home every summer. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this honor and spreading the word.
