Support Rockmont Alumni who are Published Authors!

The Latest from Rockmont

Several Rockmont alumni are published authors. Lets support those who are a part of the extended family:

Joseph Richard Martin
“No Bag for the Journey” is the story of Josephs solo bike trip across the country to revitalize his Faith. Rockmonters of the 70’s and 80’s may remember Joseph, (then known as Richard) as a ski trip istructor at Camp Ahoy, then director of tennis and head of CiT’s at Rockmont. Go to www.nobagforthejourney.com for details. Below see Joseph wearing his favorite t-shirt during the journey.

Tom Bailey

Tom is a teacher of creative writing at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. Tom was a camper, counselor, wt training Skill Head, and Tribal Director during the 70’s and early 80’s. He has had several works published, my favorite being “The Grace That Keeps This World”. Tom attended the 50th reunion back in 2006 and still looked like he could be the wt training Skill Head.

Joy “Jordan” Lake

Joy worked on staff during the mid 80’s while a student at Furman University. Joy, who holds a PhD in 19th century American literature as well as a masters from theological seminary, now lives in Tennessee and has written numerous published novels. I read  “Blue Hole Back Home” and thoroughly enjoyed it! You may learn more of Joy’s work at www.JoyJordanLake.com

Can you guess what Joy had been doing during this 1980’s photo?

Bobby Shows

Bobby “Chief Towering Willow” Shows is a Rockmont legend from the early 60’s. He attended camp with his brother Glenn. Bobby’s son Doug attended Rockmont in the mid 80’s. Bobby attended Mississippi State University where he played for a 3 time SEC champion basketball team. Bobby has spent his career mentoring to youth primarily through sports. In 1994, he founded Sports Crusaders and recently co-authored the book “God’s Game Plan for Young Athletes”. This is a fabulous guide for parents, coaches, teachers, camp staff, or anyone who works with young athletes.
