Travel Safe “After Summer” Staff

News, The Latest from Rockmont

To our “After Summer” crew: thank you. For the past few weeks, my family and I got to welcome you into our home for meals, NFL games, game nights, nail painting, and some well-earned community. Those evenings together have meant so much to me and my family.

It’s been special to watch Rockmont alumni continue to serve the camp that shaped them. You’ve given a lot of hard work long after the campers headed home, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Travel safe, and take a little piece of Rockmont with you. Once a Rockmonter, always a Rockmonter. We hope to see you back on the mountain next year!

With gratitude,
James & family

We are so excited about the recent, successful land protection effort to preserve forested mountain ridges, water sources, habitat, and scenic beauty on the Camp Rockmont property. You are invited to a special event to celebrate this project!
On Thursday, Sept. 24 at 10:30 am – Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy and Camp Rockmont will host a brief press conference event and small gathering to celebrate the new 336-acre conservation easement protecting habitat and water resources on the Camp Rockmont property, overlooking Lake Eden.

Address: 375 Lake Eden Rd, Black Mountain, NC
Itinerary:
Arrivals – 10 to 10:30 am
Event Program – 10:30 to 11:30 am. Speakers include: Will Summer (NC Land and Water Fund), Terri Wells (Buncombe County Commissioner), Matt Crawford and Chuck Flourny representing Camp Rockmont, and SAHC’s Executive Director Carl Silverstein and Land Protection Director Michelle Pugliese. We anticipate approximately 30 minutes for the speakers, followed by Q&A and photo ops.
After the speaking program, there will be an opportunity for attendees to choose from two OPTIONAL guided hikes to the conserved land, graciously hosted by representatives from Camp Rockmont and Lake Eden Preserve, LLC. More details TBA
Please follow directional signage and instructions from Camp Rockmont staff to the parking area for the event. The closest restrooms will be approximately 20-30 yards below the parking area; the event speaking program will be held at Inspiration Point, a short walk uphill from the parking area. Please see the attached location map for reference, and wear shoes comfortable for walking. Also, please let me know if you have any special needs or requests for accessibilty.
We are thrilled to announce that this land protection project is one of several closings in 2026 which have pushed Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy over the milestone of 100,000 acres protected!

Alumni Work Weekend Fall 2026 Oct 24th

Events, The Latest from Rockmont

Rockmont Alumni Work Weekend Oct 23–25

Come back to Rockmont, roll up your sleeves, reconnect with old friends, and help us tackle a project that will benefit Rockmont for years to come!

This fall’s Alumni Work Weekend will focus on the renovation and improvement of our Council Rings—some of the most meaningful and memorable places at camp. Whether you’re handy with tools or simply willing to lend a hand, we’d love to have you join us.

Plan to arrive Friday evening, October 23, or Saturday morning, October 24. We’ll spend Saturday working together, with a break for lunch and plenty of time to catch up along the way. Food and lodging will be provided throughout the weekend, so all you need to bring is appropriate work clothing, a willingness to help, and your Rockmont spirit.

After a full day of work Saturday, we’ll put down the tools, gather around the fire, bask in the glory of our accomplishments, and enjoy an evening of fellowship, stories, and hanging out at Rockmont. Departures will be Sunday, October 25.

It’s a chance to give back to a place that gave us so much, make a tangible difference at camp, and spend a fall weekend with the Rockmont community.

Food & lodging provided.
Please RSVP to james@rockmont.com and include any dietary requests or requirements.

Give Back. Reconnect. Make an Impact.
