Ben Benton checking out the SEC

The Latest from Rockmont

This article recently appeared in a local paper about Rockmont alumnus Ben Benton. Those of you who do not know the 6’5″ 300lber, might know his brother Will, or his father Bill, or his uncle Murray, or his cousin Murray Jr. The Bentons have had a Rockmont presence since the early 70’s. I am certain it all began for Ben in a comanche/apache game of “capture the flag.” Good luck Ben!

Memphis
native
Ben Benton got his first starting experience last year on the offensive line at Memphis University School.
Eying his senior season in 2011. the 6-foot-5 and 300-pound Benton is focused
on becoming an even stronger force in the trenches.

“I started at offensive guard last
year and I will again this year,” said Benton. “With this offseason, I am going
to keep hitting the weight room and keep working on my footwork. I really want
to get my speed down some and then go to some camps to learn better techniques.
I am going to camps at Tennessee and Mississippi State and I am probably going
to camp at Ole Miss, too.”

In the early stages of his
recruitment, Benton already owns one offer and is receiving interest from
several others.

“I have an offer from Memphis so
far,” said Benton. “And I am also getting interest from Arkansas, Louisville,
Mississippi State and Cincinnati. It is a lot of fun meeting and talking to
these different coaches and it’s been great so far.”

Benton has also attended junior day
at Mississippi State and has another SEC junior day scheduled for this weekend.

“Mississippi State is the only
junior day I have gone to so far,” said Benton. “I am going to Arkansas this
weekend and that will probably be it until schools start up their spring
practices.”

And concerning his visit to MSU,
Benton said it was a good opportunity to get a better view of the Bulldogs’
program and meet their coaches face-to-face.”It was a good visit and a visit I
really enjoyed,” said Benton. “I like their coaching staff there and I like
where their program is headed. I mainly talked to Coach (John) Hevesy and Coach
(Angelo) Mirando and that was mainly it. It was a good opportunity to get to
know them better and I am hoping to get high on their list.”
