🌲 336 acres. Protected forever.

Rockmont alumni, here’s news worth celebrating! Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC) and Lake Eden Preserve have permanently protected 336 acres of forested mountains overlooking Lake Eden through a conservation easement.

Stretching into the Craggy Mountains, this landscape includes forested ridges, water cascades, rare plant habitat, and important bird habitat. Its protection will help preserve the natural beauty and opportunities for discovery that have shaped generations of Rockmonters.

The project also helped push SAHC past an incredible milestone: 100,000 acres conserved across North Carolina and Tennessee!

💚 A full-circle moment for a Rockmont alum

One of the celebration’s speakers, Will Summer, Executive Director of the North Carolina Land and Water Fund, shared that his own connection to these mountains began at Rockmont forty years ago:

“I came to Camp Rockmont and fell in love with the natural beauty of the North Carolina mountains. It contributed to who I am today, and I am thrilled to be a part of an organization that provided funding to ensure that experience can be enjoyed by future generations.”

For our alumni community, that story hits home. A childhood experience at camp can shape a lifetime—and in Will’s case, help protect that same experience for those who follow.

Thank you to Lake Eden Preserve, SAHC, the North Carolina Land and Water Fund, Buncombe County voters, and the generous supporters who made this lasting protection possible.
